Family and Abbey Essay Example for Free
Family and Abbey Essay Blonde hair, blue eyes and a sad look. This was the face of an innocent little girl named Abbey. Abbey was only 10 years old and she lived at home with her mother and father. She had no one to play with and her only friend was a little toy bear, it was old and falling apart and it had patches of hair. Abbey was an only child and was just about to start year 5 at Howard Pubic School. The poor little girl wasnââ¬â¢t so much bullied at school, but she was always left out. She was too young to understand why it was happening to her and why the children were always being mean to her. I guess you could say, most 10 year olds love going home at the end of the day to see their family but not Abbey. Abbeyââ¬â¢s father had a beer in his hand as per usual and her mum had bloodshot eyes as always. The only time she was allowed out of her room was to go to school, other than that her parents always kept her locked in an attic because they had no time for the poor little girl and they never cared about her. Every afternoon she would come home from school and sit in her room talking to her toy bear when no one was around. She used to lie on the floor and not make a sound. She hides in a corner while she hears her parents come up and unlock the door. Some more and more pain Abbey has to go through for no reason at all. There are scars on her face and bruises on her legs. Out of everyone, why is she is such a horrible place? The poor little girl cries herself to sleep every night because all she wants to do is to fit in with everyone and have a family that loves her dearly but she thinks to herself why she is not belonging. She holds her toy bear close and sobs. Meanwhile in her room, she sits in the corner quiet but yet thinking ââ¬Å"God why? Why did my life turn out like this?â⬠Everyday is a struggle for the little five year old and she prays before she goes to bed ââ¬Å"Dear Jesus, I know that my mummy or daddy do not care about me but please promise me youââ¬â¢ll take good care of them. I also pray that tomorrow I will make friends because it is hard for me to go to school and not play with anyone. No one wants to be friends with me and I donââ¬â¢t know why. Thank you and I love youâ⬠. One night before school, her mum came home high. The mother and father were having an argument and the police were called. The poor little girl was slapped, beaten and hit as hours went by. When the police showed up, they took Abbey to a foster home to be looked after. When she leaves, Abbey suddenly runs back inside and grabs her teddy, as that is the only thing she took with her. The mother and father said goodbye to the little girl as the police took her away. Abbey is now in a safer environment with carers that she loves. She has put everything past her and started a new life. She will always remember what happened when she was young but now all she can think of is how happy she is.

Sport Utility Vehicles :: SUVs Transportation Automobiles Essays
Sport Utility Vehicles In recent years the market for SUVs, Sport Utility Vehicles, and pickup-trucks has increased significantly. In fact, ââ¬Å"more than 40% of consumers say they are considering buying an SUV for their next vehicle, the highest of any segment,â⬠(Halliday 1-2). As the name implies, Sport Utility Vehicles were originally intended as means of transportation in places where normal cars would not function well, such as off-road. Pickup-trucks were also designed for a practical purpose, hauling materials that would not normally fit in a car trunk. Has the dramatic increase in sales of SUVs lead to a dramatic increase in the number of people driving off-road? No. Has the dramatic increase in the sales of pickup-trucks lead to an increase in people hauling large objects? No. The majority of SUV and truck owners purchase their vehicles because they believe that they are safer. The question arises how safe are SUVs and trucks really? SUV and truck safety can be broken down into t wo categories, the safety of the driver of the SUV or truck and the safety of any other motorist who collides with an SUV or truck. What kinds of people would want to buy an SUV or a truck? Well the practical answer would be people who want to off-road or haul large equipment, but that is not the largest group of SUV and truck consumers. Most SUV owners buy SUVs because they feel as though they are more protected in case of an accident. This is a proven fact ââ¬Å"SUVs, vans, and pickups appear to be more aggressive and may be more crashworthy than cars. Effects of pickups are most pronounced. Drivers in pickups face less risk of serious injury than car drivers,â⬠(Toy / Hammitt 7-8). This is a very valid point. Force is equal to mass times acceleration. If a car and an SUV are traveling at a relatively similar speed and they collide, the vehicle with more mass, the SUV, will always win. This obsession with feeling safe is resulting in the size of SUVs and trucks reaching ridiculous proportions. The new Ford Excursion is too large to fit into many normal sized parking spaces. Every year trucks and SUVs get bigger in an effort to be the ââ¬Å"safestâ⬠vehicle on the road.

Era of Fashion
An Era of Fashion Webster dictionary states that fashion is ââ¬Å"The make or form of something. The prevailing style during a particular time. â⬠Personally, I believe fashion is not Just what you wear but a state of mind. I once read a quote by Coco Channel that read, ââ¬Å"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will ââ¬Å"assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safer, the creatures of the commonplace the slaves of the ordinary. â⬠This to me said it all.Fashion is about showing the true o and the statement that you want to make on that particular day, weather that statement is bold or casual in sweat pants and a white T. Fashion is not Just what we see everyday in magazines. Fashion is what you make it. During the pre ass's through the early to mid-ass's fashion trends such as the mini skirt, maxi skirt, mini dress, the halter neck cat dress, flared trousers, empire dresses, high waist banana sears, bell bottoms, army Jackets and Jumpsuits were all the rage. Two of the more well known people I believed to represent the ass's well was, Affray Facet, who cocked the feathered hairstyle and ass's style well for the ladies and Elvis Presley who was well known for always looking amazing in Jumpsuits showed the boys exactly how to make an outfit look good. In the photos I have chosen to use you will see my Grandparent's, my Uncle, my mother and my father. My Grandparent's and Uncle have always lived in Tucson, Az as for my mother for most of her life has lived in Tucson, except with a two year influence from her time spent in California. As for my father he was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas until his college years when he moved to Tucson. The pictures were not taken for a particular reason other than to remember the time my father went to the Pimp Air Show and the time my mother spent visiting Harbor Island. The trends in both hair style and garments are shown. For instance my mother in the black an d white photograph shows Just how being ââ¬Å"hipâ⬠in that time of age would have been represented, which was shown by the mini dress and having hair as big as you could get it to go. The types of clothing shown in my pictures are more on the casual side of everyday life in the U.S. Back in the ass's. Because fashion has always reflected its moment in history one could say that clothes mocked their environment. More designers were finally getting the chance to travel. This gave them a chance to see other nations. Viewing other nations meant new colors, textures, materials and ideas. There was now more to fashion than the same old boring prints. What is special about the ass's clothing to me are the patterns and the colors. The ass's was bold and therefore the colors and shapes of the garments were bigger than life. Personally, it seems to me that living in the ass's meant that one could not be shy! This era in time was such a big influence on the world and trends can still be seen in present day. For example, ââ¬Å"That ass's Show,â⬠puts forth a great understanding of the prints, textures, and all around style of the ass's. Another show that from time to time will represent the ass's is ââ¬Å"The Rachel Zoe Project. â⬠Rachel Zoe is a fashion stylist, who herself every so often will show high wasted pants, big earrings, big hair, patterns, and styles from the ass's. All in all I believe that the seventies was an amazing and inspiring era. QUESTIONS: 1 . The clothes do inspire me, the whole 60-70 era inspires me. Yes its fashion. Fashion is not one particular trend or look. Fashion includes person style and the emotion behind the person, It's a statement. 10. The style is Mod and personal. 11. That ass's Show I believe uses this era as inspiration along with ââ¬Å"The Rachel Zoe Project. ââ¬Å"

Government, Economics, and Fiscal Policy Essay - 1271 Words
The statement ââ¬Å"I want my job back!â⬠has become a war cry for the masses. Great amounts of money are being dumped into the economy, but with little to no return. The system is failing and people are becoming restless. In light of the recent ââ¬Å"Occupy Wall Streetâ⬠protests the question begs to be answered, ââ¬Å"Are we going to get our jobs back?â⬠With so many politicians declaring they have the answers, how can we find the correct path to follow? Something is missing from both plans, but first the plans should be discussed before criticism can begin. It is time for the government to return to a Laissez-faire ââ¬Å"Hands Off!â⬠economy. On one side you have President Obama who declares that higher taxes on the wealthy and large corporations will solveâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This bill seems to do a lot of good, it creates jobs. But it does so much more. The American Jobs Act of 2011will decrease the national deficit by $6 billion dollars over the next ten years. ââ¬Å"That estimated deficit reduction of $6 billion over the coming decade is the net effect of $447 billion in additional spending and tax cutsâ⬠(Congressional Budget Office). Why so little return for the amount of money being spent? Almost a half trillion dollars are being spent and only 6 billion dollars are being reduced from the deficit. This bill is leaving something out. Americans know the value of a balanced budget. If no more money is spent than brought in the creditors do not bother to call. But for those who spend more than they make it is not such an easy process. First many phone calls begin as creditors begin to look for their money. If no money can be paid back the family must declare bankruptcy. If a family cannot live outside its means than why should the government? If a corporation cannot operate within its means it soon folds. So why should the government try? It is for our protection and betterment that we find a way to lower the deficit and still allow jobs to be created. In the current economic storm businesses are weary of hiring because they have been required to follow unnecessary regulations. The cost of hiring a new $60,000/yr IT employee is estimated to be approximately $150,000 (Monte). Fiscal policy is the use of the government budget to affect an economy. When the government decides on the taxes that it collects, the transfer payments it gives out, or the goods and services that it purchases, it is engaging in fiscal policy. The primary economic impact of any change in the government budget is felt by particular groupsââ¬âa tax cut for families with children, for example, raises the disposable income of such families.
